The HPLC-UV Test of Septa Extractable Species

Experiment Purpose:

Use the HPLC-UV method to test of menthol extraction solution of Hawach, Agilent, and Thermo PTFE bonded silicon septa, to confirm there are no obvious extraction species in our septa compared to world-famous septa.

Experiment process:

Put 100 mg Hawach, Agilent, Thermo PTFE bonded silicon septa in 2mL ACN: H2O=1:1 solution for 24 h at room temperature, and then use HPLC-UV to test the extraction solution to see if there are some obviously impurities.

Experiment results:

According to the HPLC-UV result of the comparison of Hawach, Agilent, and Thermo PTFE bonded silicon septa, we can see that all septa have the same impurity peaks at times 5-10 min and 11-21 min, however, the response level is very small and almost has no influence on customers’ results.
Meanwhile, we suppose that the impurities mainly come from the extraction of the silicon layer, reminding customers to use septa correctly by putting the PTFE layer toward the as-tested liquid.
